The artistic process

This painting received the Prix d’Excellence de Marine at the Salon de la Rochelle (July 2018) and was chosen to represent France in Japan during the exhibition “Art actuel – France/Japon” in August 2019 at the National Art Center in Tokyo. The spiny burbot is a symbol of the deep-sea fauna threatened by fishing net techniques that drag whatever they find in the sea to the surface and then discard the unmarketable remains (bycatch). Most of the large predator fish population has been drastically overfished. Deep-sea trawling also blindly destroys corals that have taken a thousand years to grow.
