The artistic process
The title – subject of the painting makes reference to the UNOC3 (United nations conference for the ocean) held last June, 2025, in Nice, France. This conference made significant progress in the fight to saving the ocean : an international treaty on the protection of biodiversity on the high seas. The treaty was ratified by 60 countries and enter into force the 17th of January 2026. In my painting, a carnivorous fish challenges Neptune’s symbolic role as the ruler of an ecological equitable sea. We advocate the need for more respect of marine life. One major solution required is to ban sea-bottom trawling. Art can help science pass on these urgent messages.
